(BEIJING, September 5) -- Elections of new members to the Athletes' Council (AC) of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) began yesterday, September 4, just two days before the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Paralympic Games.
The voting stations at the Beijing Paralympic Village will be open September 4-15 while the stations in Hong Kong and Qingdao will be open September 5-8.
Athletes at the voting centers vote in a private room and can select three to six athletes from a ballot of 14 eligible candidates. All voters receive one ballot and a lovely Fu Niu Lele, the official mascot of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
The IPC Athletes' Council is the collective voice of Paralympic athletes within the IPC and the greater Paralympic Movement. It works to ensure effective athlete representation on all IPC committees and commissions as well as to create other opportunities for athlete representation both within and outside the IPC.
